The warrant stemmed from an alleged retail theft incident that occurred on April 27th at the Mulberry Walmart. According to reports, the stolen merchandise included a tower fan, solar lights, socks, an iPhone case, and girls’ apparel.
Upon arrival at the Monterey Drive SE home, deputies encountered Owens attempting to evade them by fleeing out the back door. However, his escape was short-lived. The PCSO K9 unit, present in the backyard, quickly convinced Owens that further flight was not a viable option.
Owens was subsequently taken into custody and transported to the Polk County Jail. Authorities discovered that in addition to the Polk County warrant, Owens also had an outstanding Violation of Probation warrant out of Hardee County, with the underlying charge being theft.
