MIAMI, Fla. – Miami-Dade County has transitioned to a Republican majority, marking the end of its long-held status as a Democratic stronghold in Florida. The change is reflected in the latest voter registration numbers, indicating a notable swing in the county’s political landscape.

According to the most recent voter rolls, Miami-Dade County now has 464,370 registered Republicans, representing 34% of the electorate. This surpasses the 440,790 registered Democrats (32.27%) and the 429,099 independent and third-party registrants (31.41%). This shift signifies a substantial change from previous election cycles.

Historically a Democratic stronghold, Miami-Dade County’s political realignment has been attributed to several factors. In 2016, Hillary Clinton won the county by a 30-point margin.

However, recent elections have shown a significant shift, with Republican candidates gaining traction. The Republican Party has focused on messaging related to economic prosperity, freedom, and opposition to what they term “radical Democratic socialism.” This messaging has resonated with a portion of the electorate, particularly among Cuban and Venezuelan voters who have expressed dissatisfaction with leftist policies.

Key Republican victories include the 2022 gubernatorial race, where Governor Ron DeSantis secured a substantial win in the county, and the 2024 presidential election, where President Donald Trump carried the county. Additionally, Republican candidates won key local races, including Sheriff, Supervisor of Elections, Clerk of Court, and Tax Collector.

“This is a total repudiation of the Democrats’ failed agenda. Miami-Dade is no longer their safe haven—it’s the beating heart of the Republican revolution,” said Evan Power, Chairman of the Republican Party of Florida.

Power credited the victory to the party’s focus on “hardworking families, Hispanic patriots, and communities demanding safe streets, top-notch schools, and a booming economy.”

Republican Party officials also highlighted the contributions of local leaders, including Chairman Kevin Cooper, State Committeeman Juan Porras, State Committeewoman Liliana Ros, former Chairman Alex Rizo, former Chairman Rene Garcia, and former State Committeeman Kevin Cabrera.

They also noted the influence of U.S. Senator Marco Rubio and Governor Ron DeSantis in solidifying the Republican presence in the county.

The Republican Party of Florida also pointed to the overall shift in voter registration in the state. They noted that in 2018, Democrats held a 300,000 voter registration advantage, while currently, Republicans hold a 1.29 million voter registration advantage statewide.

“Miami-Dade is now a blazing red fortress, and we’re charging toward an even brighter future!” Power stated.
