Anglers across the Gulf are invited to showcase their passion for fishing and commitment to conservation as Return ‘Em Right (RER), a leading Gulf-wide initiative focused on improving reef fish survival, announces its second annual Catch, Click, & Release photo contest.
The popular event kicks off on June 1 and runs through July 31, encouraging participants to capture their thrilling catches while highlighting ethical fish handling and safe release practices.
The Catch, Click, & Release contest aims to raise awareness about mitigating pressure-related injuries in fish, commonly known as barotrauma, through proper release techniques. Participants are encouraged to submit photos that not only convey the excitement of their catch but also demonstrate responsible handling and the use of descending devices to ensure a quick and safe return to depth for the fish.

“We want to celebrate the moments that make fishing special while reinforcing the importance of proper release techniques,” said Nick Haddad, RER communications manager. “Catch, Click, & Release is about bringing awareness to effective release methods and giving anglers an opportunity to win great prizes for doing the right thing.”
To be eligible, photo entries must clearly show the angler with an eligible fish attached to a descending device and demonstrate responsible fish handling. While creativity is encouraged, the swift and safe release of the fish should remain the priority.
The contest features categories for the best red snapper, red grouper, and gag grouper photos, as well as a “Best of the Rest” category for other species exhibiting barotrauma. A special grand prize will be awarded to the angler who submits the most compelling story accompanying their catch.
