Democratic National Committee (DNC) Vice Chair David Hogg has lauded Texas Representative Jasmine Crockett as an exemplary figure for the Democratic party, praising her “authenticity” and confrontational style.
During a Friday interview with radio host Charlamagne Tha God, Hogg enthusiastically endorsed Crockett, known for her fiery rhetoric and sharp criticisms of Republicans.
“Jasmine Crockett — I love her. She is amazing,” Hogg stated. “I think that people want to see somebody who fights and calls out the bullshit ultimately. I think that’s what Jasmine does.” He emphasized the need for more political figures willing to speak bluntly, regardless of potential criticism. “Screw that. They’re going to criticize you no matter what. So what we should be asking ourselves is, what are we really fighting for? Because we know it matters.”

Crockett has garnered national attention for her aggressive approach, including referring to wheelchair-bound Texas Governor Greg Abbott as “Governor Hot Wheels” and engaging in what have been described as racially-charged and inflammatory attacks on her political opponents.
Hogg continued his praise, saying, “And I think Jasmine is, frankly, the type of leader that we’re really looking to support in some senses, right? Somebody who is out there that frankly doesn’t give a damn what the other side — at least the elected Republicans in Congress — say.” He asserted that voters crave politicians who clearly articulate their beliefs without appearing to filter them through talking points. “They want that authenticity.”
A member of the Congressional Progressive Caucus, Crockett’s style has also drawn skepticism. In April, NewsNation political contributor Chris Cillizza suggested that Crockett’s far-left policies and tone could be detrimental in a national election.
“Jasmine Crockett is great if you’re a Democratic activist type. Fine, she’s saying everything you wanna hear,” Cillizza remarked. “The problem is Democratic activists alone don’t win you the presidency or even come close.”
Crockett herself has acknowledged that her “authentic” personality might hinder a potential presidential run. In a March appearance on “Inside Texas Politics,” she expressed doubt about her viability for the White House in 2028 due to this trait.
Furthermore, in a separate March interview with “Lone Star Politics,” Crockett conceded that her primary focus in Congress was on opposing President Donald Trump rather than advancing legislation.
David Hogg, who co-founded the political group Leaders We Deserve in 2023, recently announced the organization’s plans to invest $20 million to support the election of younger Democratic leaders.
This initiative includes backing primary challengers against incumbent House Democrats, signaling a push for a new generation of leadership within the party. Hogg’s endorsement of Crockett aligns with this stated goal of promoting what he views as more authentic and combative voices.
