Moped Rider Critically Injured In Clearwater U.S. 19 Crash

CLEARWATER, Fla. – A moped rider sustained potentially life-threatening injuries this evening after a serious crash on U.S. 19 southbound, just south of Seville Boulevard. The incident, reported to authorities starting at 6:21 p.m., involved an electric moped and resulted in the rider being thrown from the overpass.

According to Clearwater Police and Clearwater Fire & Rescue, who responded to multiple calls regarding the crash, the electric moped struck the retaining wall on the west side of the overpass. The impact caused the rider to be ejected over the wall, landing on the access road below.

The injured rider was transported to Orlando Health Bayfront Hospital as a trauma alert. Officials describe his injuries as potentially life-threatening.

The investigation into the crash is ongoing. As a result, one southbound lane of U.S. 19 remains closed, along with one lane of the access road below the overpass. Motorists are advised to seek alternate routes if possible and exercise caution in the area.
