LARGO, Fla. – A quiet Largo neighborhood was shattered Friday after a welfare check led deputies to discover a double homicide, with the victims identified as 53-year-old Elizabeth Lee Kirchner and 64-year-old Steven Eric Kirchner.
Their son, Nicholas Steven Kirchner, 37, has been arrested in Georgia and is facing two counts of First-Degree Murder Premeditated.

The tragic discovery unfolded on Friday, June 6, 2025, at approximately 12:35 p.m. Deputies from the Patrol Operations Bureau responded to 29 Saunders Avenue after a concerned caller requested a welfare check for an employee who failed to report for work. Upon entering the home, deputies found Elizabeth and Steven Kirchner deceased in their living room, both suffering from apparent gunshot wounds.
As the Robbery & Homicide Unit launched their investigation, detectives quickly focused on the victims’ son, Nicholas Steven Kirchner, who had reportedly fled the scene before law enforcement arrived.
The investigation took a significant turn when the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office in South Carolina contacted detectives, reporting an unrelated incident involving Nicholas. During this incident, Nicholas allegedly made a chilling confession, stating, “I’ve already killed two people – I’ll kill some more.” He again fled the scene.

The pursuit of Nicholas Steven Kirchner ultimately ended in Georgia, where he was apprehended by the Taliaferro County Sheriff’s Office.
Authorities report that Nicholas has admitted multiple times to killing his parents, bizarrely describing the acts as a “righteous kill.” He was subsequently arrested and transported to the McDuffie County Jail in Georgia, where he is being held on a felony warrant for the double homicide in Largo.
