LAKELAND, Fla. – A 71-year-old woman was rescued from her home north of Lakeland on Thursday, June 5th, after she was found trapped and unable to move for three days. The rescue was initiated thanks to the concern of a vigilant friend and a good Samaritan neighbor.

“A man said that he was contacted by a friend of his 71-year-old neighbor. She hadn’t heard from her friend. The man hadn’t seen her recently either, and her mailbox was full. He feared the worst, so he reached out to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office,” said PCSO.

Upon arrival at the residence on Thursday afternoon, deputies attempted to make contact at the front door but received no answer. As they circled the home, they heard a faint cry for help coming from within.

The deputies immediately called for Polk County Fire Rescue (PCFR) to respond and found a way to enter the home. Inside, they discovered the elderly woman wedged between her bed and a dresser. She told her rescuers that she had fallen into that position three days prior and had been unable to free herself since.

PCFR personnel arrived on the scene and quickly determined that the woman was suffering from severe dehydration. She was transported to a local hospital for medical treatment.
