POLK COUNTY, Fla. – A Valrico man is facing charges after allegedly brandishing a firearm during a road rage incident Thursday afternoon near Mulberry. Scott Collett, 52, was arrested at his home after deputies identified him as the driver who threatened another motorist on State Road 60.

The incident unfolded on Thursday, June 12th, at approximately 3:30 p.m., when Polk County Sheriff’s Office (PCSO) deputies responded to a reported road rage confrontation in the vicinity of State Road 60 and Peerless Road.

According to the victim, she was traveling west on SR 60 when the driver of a silver 2019 Cadillac began tailgating her and making obscene gestures. The victim told deputies she attempted to de-escalate the situation by moving over and signaling for the Cadillac to pass.

However, instead of passing, the Cadillac pulled alongside her vehicle, and its driver allegedly brandished a firearm. Fearing for her safety and that of her passenger, the victim immediately applied her brakes.

The victim’s passenger was able to capture photographs of the Cadillac, including its license plate number. This information allowed PCSO deputies to identify the vehicle’s owner as Scott Collett of Valrico. An arrest warrant was subsequently obtained.

Deputies from the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office assisted in the apprehension, locating Collett at his Valrico residence and taking him into custody. Once in custody, a PCSO detective interviewed Collett, who reportedly provided a full confession regarding the incident.

This arrest marks Collett’s third arrest in less than two months, though details regarding his previous arrests were not immediately available. He is expected to face charges related to the road rage incident.
