POLK COUNTY, Fla. – A Davenport man with a history of financial fraud charges found himself facing additional legal trouble last night after allegedly threatening a Polk County Sheriff’s Office deputy during his transport to jail.
Devon Alexander Coombs, 31, of Davenport, was apprehended on Friday, June 13th, around 10:00 PM, at a residence in the West Haven neighborhood.
Coombs had an active warrant for Violation of Probation stemming from a charge of Making a False Statement to a Financial Institution to Obtain Credit, along with Grand Theft. Authorities noted that the “Making a False Statement to a Financial Institution to Obtain Credit” is one of the longest charge descriptions they’ve encountered recently.

Furthermore, Coombs was already on probation for Defrauding a Financial Business, indicating a pattern of alleged financial misconduct.
The arrest by a PCSO deputy was initially without incident. However, the situation took a turn while Coombs was being transported to the Sheriff’s Processing Center for booking. According to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office, Coombs allegedly told the deputy, “I will slap the (expletive) out of you. If you take the handcuffs off, I’ll slap the (expletive) out of you.”
Despite the verbal threats, authorities reported that when Coombs’ handcuffs were eventually removed, no physical altercation occurred.

As a result of the alleged threats, Devon Alexander Coombs now faces additional charges of Threatening a Law Enforcement Officer and Violation of Probation. He was booked into the Polk County Jail.
