As President Trump prepared to attend the G7, a bipartisan chorus led by Senators Richard Blumenthal (D-CT) and Lindsey Graham (R-SC) demanded immediate, tough action.
On CBS’ “Face the Nation” Sunday, Blumenthal urged Trump to push for a Senate vote on robust Russian sanctions “literally tomorrow” to project strength on Ukraine.
Graham, who penned a Fox News op-ed in support of the sanctions, highlighted the widespread congressional support for the “hard-hitting” measures.

“I think the president should call on the Senate to vote approval of the Russian sanctions bill literally tomorrow. He’s on his way tonight to the G7 meeting,” the Senators said in a joint statement. “He will be sitting across from world leaders…The perception may be one of weakness in terms of America’s position on Ukraine. He can be there in a position of strength.”
But their united front didn’t stop there. With the Israel-Iran war raging, both senators were unwavering on preventing a nuclear Iran.
Graham called for providing “bombs” to ensure “nothing left standing” of Iran’s nuclear program, while Blumenthal stressed the “unacceptable threat” a nuclear-armed Iran poses.

The Connecticut Democrat also advocated for stronger sanctions against Iran, a sentiment quickly echoed by Graham, who challenged China to cease aid to both Russia and Iran.
The bipartisan call to action comes as the G7 meeting kicks off in Kananaskis, Alberta, Canada.
