Stop Woke Act Florida Gov. DeSantis

Florida Gov. DeSantis Says “No CRT” Announces Stop W.O.K.E Act

On Wednesday, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis took to the stage in Wildwood, Florida to announce the “Stop W.O.K.E. Act.”

The legislation, Stop Wrongs Against our Kids and Employees Act, will put into statute, the Department of Education’s Prohibition on CRT in K through 12 schools.

The Stop W.O.K.E. Act will be the strongest legislation of its kind in the nation and will take on both corporate wokeness and Critical Race Theory, according to DeSantis.

Today’s proposal builds on actions Governor DeSantis has already taken to ban Critical Race Theory and the New York Times’ 1619 project in Florida’s schools.

“In Florida, we are taking a stand against the state-sanctioned racism that is critical race theory,” said Governor Ron DeSantis. “We won’t allow Florida tax dollars to be spent teaching kids to hate our country or to hate each other. We also have a responsibility to ensure that parents have the means to vindicate their rights when it comes to enforcing state standards. Finally, we must protect Florida workers against the hostile work environment that is created when large corporations force their employees to endure CRT-inspired ‘training’ and indoctrination.”

The legislation will also prohibit staff, employees, or teachers in the education system to be forced to listen to CRT training in Florida schools.

DeSantis added that the legislation will define any money for K-12 and higher education going to the “cottage industry” of CRT consultants that speak in school systems.

“As the daughter of Cuban exiles who fled from Marxist ideology, I am proud to stand alongside Governor DeSantis and support this proposed legislation that will put an end to wokeness that is permeating our schools and workforce,” said Lieutenant Governor Jeanette Nuñez. “This important legislation gives students and employees the resources they need to fight back against discrimination, critical race theory, and indoctrination. I’m proud to stand alongside the Governor not only of the free state of Florida but the woke-free state of Florida.”

Christopher F. Rufo, a senior fellow, and director of the initiative on critical race theory at the Manhattan Institute joined Gov. DeSantis on Wednesday on stage.

"It's one thing to have critical race in the universities, you can ignore. It, one thing that critical race is in the federal bureaucracy, it doesn't affect you. But what happened in the last year, they have accelerated critical race theory in K through 12 public schools and they've done something that no government should do, step between parent and child."

“I might be old-fashioned, but I still think that parents have the primary responsibility in shaping their children’s moral and educational development,’ added Rufo.
