ABC News has suspended national correspondent Terry Moran, effective Sunday, following a controversial social media post targeting White House Deputy Chief of Staff for Policy Stephen Miller. The suspension came hours after the White House publicly called for action from the network.

Moran’s now-deleted post on X early Sunday morning referred to Miller as “a world-class hater,” sparking immediate backlash.

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt addressed the incident on “Sunday Morning Futures” with Maria Bartiromo, stating, “ABC is going to have to answer for what their, again, so-called journalist put out on Twitter in the wee hours of the night, calling Stephen Miller vile. They said that President Trump is a world-class hater – Stephen Miller. And this is, again, coming from someone who is supposed to be an unbiased and professional journalist.”

The suspension marks the latest in a series of controversies for ABC News and its journalists, particularly concerning their coverage of conservative figures and the Trump administration.

Moran himself has a history of contentious exchanges.

Notably, during an Oval Office interview with then-President Trump, Moran demanded that Trump call El Salvadoran President Nayib Bukele to facilitate the return of alleged MS-13 member Kilmar Abrego Garcia to the United States. Abrego Garcia did subsequently return to the U.S. to face human trafficking charges.

ABC News has also faced criticism regarding its perceived bias in reporting. During the sole 2024 presidential debate featuring then-Vice President Kamala Harris and President Donald Trump, hosts Linsey Davis and David Muir were accused of disproportionately “fact-checking” Trump while largely ignoring misstatements made by Harris, including those concerning abortion and Project 2025.

Furthermore, ABC recently settled a defamation lawsuit filed by President Donald Trump. The suit stemmed from a March 2024 interview on “This Week” where host George Stephanopoulos repeatedly called Trump a “rapist” during an interview with Republican Rep. Nancy Mace of South Carolina.

In response to Moran’s comments and subsequent suspension, Stephen Miller posted on X Sunday morning, stating, “The most important fact about Terry’s full public meltdown is what it shows about the corporate press in America. For decades, the privileged anchors and reporters narrating and gatekeeping our society have been radicals adopting a journalist’s pose. Terry pulled off his mask.”

ABC News has not yet released an official statement regarding the duration of Moran’s suspension. The incident reignites ongoing debates about journalistic objectivity and the role of social media in shaping public discourse.
