Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem was the victim of a theft while dining at a downtown Washington, D.C., restaurant Sunday night, according to a report from CNN.
Noem’s bag was stolen from the establishment by an unknown individual. Security camera footage reviewed by the Secret Service, which is responsible for the Secretary’s security, reportedly shows a white male wearing a medical mask taking the bag before leaving the restaurant.
The stolen bag contained several personal and sensitive items, including Secretary Noem’s driver’s license, medication, apartment keys, passport, and her DHS access badge.

According to CNN, among the contents were a makeup bag, blank checks, and approximately $3,000 in cash. A statement from DHS to Newsweek indicated the cash was intended to treat her family, who were in town, to dinner, activities, and Easter gifts.
The Secret Service has launched an investigation into the theft and is working to trace any potential use of Secretary Noem’s financial instruments.
