Former President Joe Biden delivered a fiery response to questions regarding his mental and physical acuity on Friday, following a belated Memorial Day event in Delaware. His remarks came amidst the recent release of “Original Sin,” a book by CNN anchor Jake Tapper and Axios reporter Alex Thompson, which details concerns about Biden’s health during his time in office.
When pressed by a reporter about widespread conversations regarding his fitness, Biden mocked the claims and appeared to challenge the authors of the book.
“You can see that I’m mentally incompetent and I can’t walk and I can beat the hell out of both of them,” Biden asserted.

The book, “Original Sin,” has brought renewed scrutiny to Biden’s health, even reportedly revealing private discussions among his aides about the possibility of him needing a wheelchair in a potential second term. This information, coupled with Biden’s public appearances, has fueled a debate among Democrats about his decision to seek re-election.
Addressing the internal party dissent, Biden challenged his critics: “Why didn’t they run against me then? Because I’d have beaten them.” When asked if he had any regrets, he responded with a firm “No, I don’t have any regrets.”
Biden emphasized the gravity of the current global landscape.
“There’s a lot going on and I think we’re at a really difficult moment. Not only in American history, but in world history. I think we’re at one of those inflection points in history where the decisions we make in the next little bit are going to determine what things look like in the next 20 years,” he stated, adding, “I put my record as president against any president at all.”
The former president also provided an update on his recent health diagnosis, announced just two days before the book’s release. On May 18, his personal office disclosed that he had been diagnosed with an “aggressive form” of prostate cancer that had metastasized to his bones on May 16.
“It’s all a matter of taking a pill, one particular pill. And for the next six weeks, and then another one,” Biden explained. “And the expectation is we’re gonna be able to beat this. It’s not in any organ. My bones are strong. It hasn’t penetrated. So I’m feeling good.”
During his Memorial Day speech, Biden notably faltered while reciting a key line from the Declaration of Independence, stating, “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men and women are created equal, endowed by their Creator, with certain unalienable rights, life, liberty, pursuit of ha — we made it!”
