Border czar Tom Homan ridiculed Democrat lawmakers on Wednesday who ignored the rampant border crisis during former President Joe Biden’s administration.
Democrat Maryland Sen. Chris Van Hollen requested a meeting with El Salvador President Nayib Bukele to demand the return of Kilmar Abrego Garcia, an alleged MS-13 member who President Donald Trump’s administration had deported.
Homan called out the Democrats for showing no outrage whatsoever over the record-high border crossings during the Biden administration in an interview with “Fox & Friends” co-host Lawrence Jones.

“We got rid of a dangerous person, an El Salvadoran national was returned to the country of El Salvador, so he’s home,” Homan said. “We removed him from the United States, he’s a public safety threat and it’s exactly what should’ve happened. And I’m just disgusted that any congressional representative is gonna run down to El Salvador in his aid when yesterday, I read [that] in [Van Hollen’s] state, an illegal alien charged with murder was released back into the community and an [Immigration and Customs Enforcement] detainer wasn’t honored and ICE had to go find him. In his state [is where] the murder of Rachel Morin [happened].”
“Yesterday, just listen to the testimony, listen to the mother on Hannity last night. If you’re not human, then your heart wasn’t broken. In his state, where rather than taking care of the constituents in his state, the victims of illegal crime in his state, he’s gonna run to El Salvador to protect an illegal MS-13 terrorist. It’s just disgusting,” Homan continued.

Democrats repeatedly argued that Biden had little power to mitigate the border crisis and that it was up to Congress to bring the record-high crossings under control. They then attempted to blame Trump for the ongoing border crisis under Biden after he opposed the bipartisan border deal, a multi-billion-dollar package that aimed to reduce border crossings by imposing stricter immigration and asylum laws.
In Trump’s first few months in office, border crossings have dropped to record lows as the administration has implemented hawkish policies.
A Maryland jury convicted Victor Antonio Martinez-Hernandez, a 24-year-old illegal immigrant, on Tuesday of first degree murder, first degree rape, third degree sexual offense and kidnapping for the death of Rachel Morin, a 37-year-old mother of five children. Morin’s mother, Patty, told Fox News’ Sean Hannity Tuesday that no Democrat, including Van Hollen, took any action to search for the murderer.

Homan said the Democrats have no compassion for the victims who died at the hands of illegal immigrants under Biden’s administration. Notable cases included the murder of 22-year-old Laken Riley in Athens, Georgia, and the strangulation of 12-year-old Jocelyn Nungaray, whose corpse was dumped into a river by two Tren de Agua members in Houston, Texas.
“They don’t care. Further on in her interview, she talks about how her young daughter died. How she suffered, how she fought for her life,” Homan said. “Just like Laken Riley, how long, [for] 17 minutes she fought for her life. That young girl didn’t want to die. So these congressmen and senators, how do these women die? Look how they fought for their lives. Don’t they have daughters? Do they have any care at all for American citizens or victims of these crimes? But they’re loud and screaming now about this MS-13 gang member. Where were they when we had 12 million illegal aliens coming across the border? Where were they when there was a 600% increase in sex trafficking? Where were they when we had 4,000 aliens die making this journey under Joe Biden?”
“Where were they when a quarter of a million of Americans were dying from fentanyl? It’s just ridiculous. Every day, I can’t believe what I’m hearing,” the border czar continued.
After acknowledging that the deportation was a clerical error, the Trump administration has maintained that Garcia should remain in El Salvador due to his alleged ties to MS-13 and previous deportation orders in 2019, according to court documents. The U.S. Supreme Court ruled that the administration should facilitate the return of Garcia, though the El Salvadoran president stated Monday that he will not return the deportee to the U.S.
