MONROE COUNTY, Fla. – State and Miami-Dade officials have implemented an immediate and complete shutdown of the 18-Mile Stretch of U.S. 1 and Card Sound Road in both directions due to a spreading brush fire.
The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office warns of significant and ongoing traffic disruptions for travel to and from the Florida Keys.
The closure, which serves as the primary route connecting the Florida Keys to the mainland, is expected to cause substantial delays and complications for residents, tourists, and commercial traffic.

Authorities are actively engaged in fire mitigation efforts. However, the prevailing weather conditions are reportedly impacting these operations, contributing to the necessity of the road closures and the uncertainty of their duration.
The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office advises all motorists to expect continued disruptions and to stay informed on the situation as weather and fire mitigation efforts progress. No estimated time for the reopening of the roads has been announced.
