TAMPA, Fla. – The Tampa Bay Buccaneers Wheelchair Football Team is issuing a call to action for athletes with physical disabilities, announcing open tryouts this Saturday, June 14, to form its 2025 squad. The team, a proud member of the USA Wheelchair Football League, is seeking dedicated players to compete in the national league.

The tryouts will take place on Saturday, June 14, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Lesley “Les” Miller, Jr. All People’s Community Park & Life Center, located at 6105 E. Sligh Ave., Tampa, FL 33617.

As one of 11 national teams in the groundbreaking USA Wheelchair Football League, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers Wheelchair Football Team offers a unique opportunity for adults with physical disabilities to engage in America’s favorite sport at a competitive level. This year, Tampa will also serve as a host city for one of the league’s tournaments, scheduled for September 27-28 at the Tampa Convention Center.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers Wheelchair Football Team operates under the Adaptive Sports division of Hillsborough County Parks & Recreation, demonstrating a commitment to inclusive athletic opportunities within the community.

Prospective players interested in trying out for the 2025 team must meet the following requirements:

  • Be at least 18 years or older as of June 1, 2025.
  • Possess a permanent physical disability that consistently reduces the function of the lower limbs.
  • Have an elite performance sport wheelchair. (For those without, the league can assist in obtaining a league-approved wheelchair).
  • Be able to compete in all USA Wheelchair Football League competitions. (Travel expenses for competitions are covered by the team).
  • Commit to participating in at least one practice per week between June 24 and November 1. Practices are held on Tuesdays and Fridays from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

This is an exciting opportunity for athletes to represent the Tampa Bay area on a national stage and be part of a pioneering league that champions adaptive sports.
