CLEARWATER, Fla. – Clearwater residents have the opportunity to safely dispose of sensitive documents and unwanted prescription medications this Saturday, thanks to a collaborative event hosted by the Clearwater Police Department and the city’s Solid Waste/Recycling Department.
The free event is scheduled for Saturday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. and will take place at Countryside Mall, located at 27001 U.S. Highway 19 N. The collection site will be situated near the intersection of U.S. 19 and Countryside Boulevard, just south of Whole Foods.

Residents can bring their unwanted paperwork for secure shredding on-site by a certified shredding company. This service aims to help protect valuable personal information from potential compromise. There is a limit of 10 boxes of documents per vehicle for shredding.
In conjunction with the shredding service, the Clearwater Police Department will be collecting old, unused, or expired prescription medications.
This initiative is part of the nationwide “Operation Medicine Cabinet,” a biannual effort to encourage safe disposal of medications. Authorities emphasize that bringing medications to this drop-off is a much safer alternative to discarding them in the trash or flushing them, which can pose environmental risks.

Both the shredding and drug takeback services are intended exclusively for Clearwater residents and are not available for businesses. Please note that needles and other types of hazardous materials will not be accepted at this event.
