HERNANDO COUNTY, Fla. – Detectives with the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) Vice and Narcotics Unit have arrested two individuals following a significant investigation into the trafficking of illegal narcotics into Hernando County. The operation culminated in the seizure of a substantial quantity of fentanyl and other dangerous drugs.

The investigation, which focused on disrupting the flow of narcotics into the community, identified Corey Burleigh as a key suspect allegedly responsible for trafficking large amounts of fentanyl. As a result of the intelligence gathered, Burleigh was arrested on Monday, May 19, 2025.

A search conducted at the time of Burleigh’s arrest yielded a significant cache of illegal substances. Detectives recovered 73.1 grams of fentanyl, 2.4 grams of methamphetamine, and 1.7 grams of crack cocaine from his possession.

Burleigh faces a slate of serious charges, including:

  • Trafficking in Fentanyl
  • Possession of a controlled substance with intent to sell
  • Conspiracy to Traffic Controlled Substance (Fentanyl)
  • Possession of Methamphetamine
  • Possession of Crack Cocaine
  • Possession of Paraphernalia

He is currently being held at the Hernando County Detention Center on a $192,500 bond.

Also taken into custody was Troy McClure, who allegedly acted as the driver, transporting Burleigh to the location of an intended drug transaction. At the time of his arrest, McClure was found to be in possession of 1 gram of fentanyl.

McClure has been charged with:

  • Possession of a Controlled Substance
  • Possession of Paraphernalia

McClure is being held on a $12,500 bond for the drug charges; however, he is being held without bond due to an unrelated charge.

Both suspects were arrested without incident and are currently in the Hernando County Detention Center.

The Hernando County Sheriff’s Office stated that “this seizure represents a major disruption to the local drug trade and a critical step in our continued effort to keep deadly substances like fentanyl off our streets. We remain committed to pursuing those who endanger our community through the trafficking and distribution of dangerous drugs.”
