The gavel has fallen on former funeral director Miles Harford, who was sentenced last week to 18 months in prison, the maximum penalty under Colorado law for his egregious crimes. The sentence, handed down by a Denver court, follows Harford’s April guilty plea to one felony count of abuse of a corpse and one misdemeanor count of theft.
The shocking discovery that unraveled Harford’s dark practices came to light on February 6, 2024. Denver Police, responding to an eviction at Harford’s Quitman Street residence, stumbled upon a macabre scene: multiple boxes of cremated remains and, more disturbingly, the body of Christina Rosales in a hearse on the property.

Investigations revealed Rosales’ remains had been neglected for approximately 18 months, while Harford had deceptively provided her family with the ashes of an unknown individual.
Denver District Attorney John Walsh did not mince words regarding the severity of Harford’s actions. “Nothing will ever undo the terrible pain that Miles Harford caused so many families,” DA Walsh stated, “but it is our hope that this sentence will provide the family and friends of the deceased with some measure of justice. Harford systematically and shockingly violated his professional and moral obligations, and, for that, he is now being held accountable.”
The investigation into Harford’s operations unearthed a pattern of “inappropriate funereal and business practices,” leading to further charges.

DA Walsh extended his condolences to all those affected by Harford’s actions and commended the dedicated efforts of his office’s prosecutors, investigators, and victim advocates, along with the Denver Police Department’s Homicide and Fraud Units, whose collaborative work ensured this outcome.
