DUNEDIN, Fla. – The City of Dunedin today issued a statement to “set the record straight” regarding its food truck policies, directly addressing recent misinformation circulating about a supposed ban on food truck operations within the city. The City emphatically stated that it has not banned food trucks and continues to support their presence when they operate within established guidelines.
“The City of Dunedin supports local businesses, including food trucks, when they operate within our established guidelines,” read the statement. “These regulations protect both business owners and our community.”
According to the City, food trucks have been permitted in Dunedin’s commercial areas since 2015, and these policies remain unchanged. The existing conditions associated with food trucks are designed to ensure the safety of pedestrians and protect surrounding businesses.

Any business intending to host a food truck on their property is required to apply for a permit. The City emphasizes that this permit process is crucial for:
- Public safety and pedestrian protection
- Compliance with health and safety standards
- Proper traffic flow and parking requirements
These requirements, the City clarified, are universally applied to all businesses and are enforced consistently across Dunedin.
The process for businesses wishing to host food trucks varies slightly depending on their location. Businesses outside of the Downtown Core must apply for Zoning Administrator Approval, while those within the Downtown Core require a Conditional Use Permit. For temporary food trucks at events such as festivals or the weekly Dunedin Market, permits are obtained through the City Event Application Process.
The City of Dunedin encourages anyone with questions about food truck permits or the permit process to contact their Community Development department for accurate information.
