Fatal Shooting On Colson Avenue In Sarasota Investigated; Suspect Warrant Issued

SARASOTA, Fla. – The Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO) is investigating a fatal shooting that occurred Thursday evening in the 2500 block of Colson Avenue, which resulted in the death of a 45-year-old Sarasota man. Authorities have issued a warrant for a suspect in connection with the incident and are seeking the public’s assistance.

According to the SCSO, deputies and paramedics responded to the Colson Avenue address on May 1st following reports of a shooting. Upon arrival, responders located a man in the front yard suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest.

The victim was identified as Reginald Graves, 45. Paramedics initiated life-saving measures at the scene before transporting him to Sarasota Memorial Hospital. Despite the efforts of medical staff, Graves was pronounced dead at 7:54 p.m. His next of kin has been notified.

Detectives with the SCSO Criminal Investigations Section responded to the scene and conducted interviews as part of their ongoing investigation. Authorities actively seek additional witnesses to the incident and request any available surveillance video from the area.

The Sheriff’s Office has issued a warrant for Trae B. Ward, a 33-year-old Sarasota resident in connection with the shooting. Investigators currently believe this to be an isolated incident.
