PLANT CITY, Fla. – The Plant City Police Department is investigating a fatal shooting that occurred in the early morning hours Friday, at the Speedlane Express located at 501 N. County Line Road.
Police were called to the scene at approximately 2:15 a.m. following a report of a shooting with injuries. When officers arrived, they found an adult male on the ground near a vehicle with an apparent gunshot wound.
Officers immediately began rendering life-saving measures, but despite their efforts, the individual was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Police say the incident originated as a verbal dispute inside the gas station. The altercation reportedly escalated and moved outside.
According to initial findings, the victim advanced toward the shooter while in possession of a knife, leading the shooter to believe their life was in danger. In response, the shooter fired a single round, striking the victim.
The shooter remained at the scene and fully cooperated with responding officers. Based on the initial facts and evidence gathered, investigators have indicated that the incident appears to fall within the protection provided under Florida’s “Stand Your Ground” law.
