The 2025 Atlantic hurricane season is already showing its first signs of activity, with the National Hurricane Center (NHC) identifying the season’s inaugural tropical wave. The first tropical wave of 2025 formed off the coast of Africa.

As of 2:15 PM Tuesday, the axis of a tropical wave was tracking westward at approximately 12 mph.

While this initial wave currently poses no immediate threat to land, it serves as a reminder to prepare for the upcoming tropical season.

Gulf of America

A ridge of high pressure is currently extending from South Florida to Houston, Texas, influencing wind patterns across the Gulf, according to the National Hurricane Center (NHC).

Moderate winds are expected in the west, with gentler conditions in the east. Seas are generally 4-6 feet in the western Gulf and 2-4 feet in the eastern Gulf.

Forecasters anticipate this pattern will persist through today, with a weak cold front moving into the northern Gulf tonight, stalling, and then dissipating by Wednesday night.

Another weak front is expected in the NE Gulf on Thursday.

High pressure will dominate the NE Gulf this coming weekend. Residents near the Yucatan Peninsula can expect easterly winds each afternoon and evening due to a developing trough. Hazy skies from agricultural fires in southeastern Mexico will continue across the western Gulf.
