Florida drivers enjoyed a significant drop in fuel costs last week, with the state average for regular unleaded gasoline falling below the $3 per gallon mark. On Sunday, the average price reached $2.93 per gallon, the lowest daily average recorded since December 2023.

This recent decline represents a substantial saving for motorists. Sunday’s state average is 17 cents less than the previous week, 22 cents lower than a month ago, and a remarkable 54 cents less than the price at this time last year.

According to Mark Jenkins, spokesman for AAA – The Auto Club Group, “Florida drivers are seeing the lowest gas prices in 17 months.” He attributed the dip primarily to “fears that the trade war could trigger a recession and reduce fuel demand.”

However, the trend of falling prices may face upward pressure soon. Jenkins noted that “reports of easing tensions pushed oil prices higher last week, which could result in rising prices at the pump.”

The U.S. price for crude oil began the week at $57.13 per barrel but saw a 5% increase, closing at $61 by Friday, aligning with April’s price levels. Gasoline futures also experienced a gain, rising by 9 cents.

Across the state, pump prices vary by region. The most expensive metro markets for gasoline were reported as West Palm Beach-Boca Raton ($3.09), Gainesville ($3.06), and Naples ($3.04). Conversely, drivers found the least expensive fuel in the Panama City ($2.79) and Crestview-Fort Walton Beach ($2.79) areas, followed closely by Pensacola ($2.83).
