Florida drivers are currently enjoying the lowest gas prices in a month, with the state average falling to $2.95 per gallon on Sunday. This marks a 14-cent decrease from a week ago and is the lowest average seen since May 12th.
However, this downward trend is expected to be short-lived, as escalating geopolitical tensions in the Middle East have sent crude oil prices soaring.
Mark Jenkins, spokesman for AAA – The Auto Club Group, warned that “As a result, U.S. gas prices are expected to rise this week. The extent of the increase is uncertain, but drivers could begin seeing gas prices move higher on Monday.”

Last week, the U.S. price for crude oil jumped by a significant 13%. Friday’s closing price of $72.98 per barrel was $8.40 higher than the previous week and represents the highest daily settlement since February 11, 2025. This surge is directly attributed to heightened tensions between Israel and Iran.
While Floridians have momentarily benefited from a dip in prices, the volatile global oil market suggests that this relief at the pump may be fleeting. Motorists are advised to monitor gas prices closely in the coming days as the impact of rising crude oil costs is likely to be felt across the state.
