Governor Ron DeSantis today emphasized Florida’s prominent role in immigration enforcement and unveiled a new plan to bolster the state’s efforts further. Speaking in Tampa, DeSantis said that Florida is prepared to expand its contribution to federal immigration initiatives.
“Florida has led the nation on immigration enforcement, and we’re ready to do even more,” stated Governor DeSantis. “We’ve submitted a plan to the federal government to contribute new detention facilities and expanded apprehension efforts to their ongoing mission to reclaim America’s sovereignty.”

The governor highlighted Florida’s current involvement, noting that the state has the highest number of deputized state law enforcement officers under the 287(g) task force program nationwide.
He also underscored the recent deputization of over 100 Florida Highway Patrol Troopers as Special Deputy U.S. Marshals, granting them the authority to execute federal warrants and remove individuals deemed dangerous from Florida communities.
DeSantis’s proposed plan aims to further augment these efforts by offering new state-operated detention facilities and increased apprehension capabilities to the federal government.

Additionally, the plan includes a proposal to expedite immigration legal processing by deputizing Florida National Guard JAGs (Judge Advocate Generals) as immigration judges.
