Florida Hit-And-Run Kills Two Surveyors; North Carolina Truck Driver Arrested: FHP

Two people are dead following a tragic hit-and-run crash involving a semi-truck on Interstate 95 Friday morning. Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) officials confirmed the fatalities and the subsequent arrest of the driver responsible.

According to FHP, a semi-truck struck a car parked on the shoulder of southbound I-95 and fled the scene. The victims, identified by FHP as surveyors, were standing in front of their truck on the shoulder when the impact occurred.

Authorities located the semi-truck later on I-95 in Palm Beach County. The driver, identified as Hassan Abdirahman Sheikh Ali, a 36-year-old man from Charlotte, North Carolina, was taken into custody by FHP traffic homicide investigators.

Sheikh Ali has been arrested and charged with hit and run involving death.

The crash prompted the closure of the southbound lanes of I-95 at Malabar Road, according to Palm Bay police.
