What began as a call about a disruptive, drunk man harassing customers at a Grayton Beach restaurant late Friday ultimately led to a DUI arrest and a disturbing scene at the Walton County Jail.
On May 2nd, the Walton County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a heavily intoxicated individual causing a disturbance at a business in the Grayton Beach area. Deputies were initially unable to locate the suspect.

However, the situation escalated when the business contacted authorities a second time, reporting that the same man had returned and was driving by the restaurant, yelling insults from his vehicle.
Deputies located the suspect’s vehicle near the intersection of County Highway 283 and Highway 98 in Santa Rosa Beach. The driver was identified as 47-year-old Jason Lavar Buchanan of Freeport.
According to the Sheriff’s Office report, Buchanan immediately became confrontational and refused to exit his vehicle when instructed by deputies. This resistance led to deputies tasing the man multiple times.
The bizarre chain of events continued after Buchanan was transported to the Walton County Jail.

Once in custody, Buchanan allegedly began yelling at and harassing booking staff. His behavior then took a turn for the worse as he reportedly defecated and urinated in his cell. Authorities said that Buchanan then proceeded to wipe his feces on the glass window and door of the cell.
Buchanan was subsequently arrested and charged with driving under the influence (DUI) and obstruction without violence. A review of his criminal history revealed a prior DUI conviction and multiple past charges related to obstruction.
He was issued a $5,000 bond.
