Florida Man’s 3 AM Museum Snooze Leads To Battery Charge After Spitting On Deputy

MONROE COUNTY, Fla. – A 59-year-old Marathon man found sleeping at the Crane Point Museum and Nature Center early Tuesday morning was arrested after allegedly spitting on a Monroe County Sheriff’s Office Deputy.

Robert John Hermanson faces multiple charges, including battery on a law enforcement officer, resisting arrest, and providing false information to law enforcement.

According to the Sheriff’s Office report, deputies encountered Hermanson at approximately 3 a.m. at the Crane Point Museum and Nature Center. Authorities noted that multiple “no trespassing” signs were clearly visible at the location.

Hermanson allegedly provided deputies with a false name, date of birth, and social security number. Deputies were quickly able to ascertain his true identity and discovered that he had an outstanding arrest warrant from Miami-Dade County.

When deputies attempted to take Hermanson into custody, he reportedly ignored their commands and then spat in the face of one of the deputies. He is also accused of physically resisting arrest by pushing and pulling away from the officers.

Hermanson was subsequently taken into custody and transported to the Monroe County Jail. He will face charges related to the incident in Marathon as well as the outstanding warrant from Miami-Dade County.
