Republican Florida Rep. Byron Donalds said Thursday on “The Ingraham Angle” that the Democratic Party’s support of “open borders” does not align with the American majority.
A poll conducted by Way to Win and Impact Research said 77% of likely voters in swing districts across the U.S. disapprove of how Democrats handle immigration, with only 19% approving. Donalds spoke with Angel Father Joe Abraham, whose daughter was killed by an illegal migrant, and Fox’s Laura Ingraham. Donalds agreed when Ingraham said migrants coming into the U.S. need to respect the country’s laws.

“You’re absolutely correct. To Mr. Abraham, I got a chance to meet him before our hearing started, and [I’m] so sorry for his loss,” Donalds said. “But it is something that just did not need to happen.”
“You had these Democrat governors who were trying to place blame on everybody else except for their party and their leadership that opened up our borders to criminals and people who have hurt the American people, all for the sake of their religion on open borders. It is a terrible policy,” Donalds added. “It makes no sense. It takes away resources from so many Americans.”
The U.S. southern border crisis was a major issue during the 2024 elections. Millions came across the border during Biden’s term, with the monthly border encounters hitting nearly 160,000 and a daily average peaking at 15,000.

The murders of 22-year-old Laken Riley, 12-year-old Jocelyn Nungaray and 37-year-old Maryland mom Rachel Morin outraged voters.
“Then the worst of it all, you have the story of Mr. Abraham, of Jocelyn Nungary and so many others — Rachel Morin — who have lost their lives,” Donalds said. “The Democrats need to get their acts together and live in the land of the real and not this political landscape that has really hurt and victimized so many Americans. This is why their poll numbers suck.”
While likely voters in swing districts disapprove of how Democrats handle immigration, foreign-born citizens now also support the right’s view on the issue, according to recent CNN data.
On Wednesday, CNN’s senior data reporter Harry Enten reported a 40-point shift toward the right among immigrant voters. Enten’s data said that while Democrats once held a 32-point advantage on the issue in 2020, Republicans are now ahead by eight points.
“This is why they will continue to lose. And if they want to rally around Alex Padilla, be my guest. But the American people simply are not with you,” Donalds said.
