Florida Senator Ashley Moody delivered remarks Tuesday in front of the Supreme Court of the United States, advocating for school choice and unequivocally supporting parental rights in education. The event marked the 100th anniversary of the landmark Pierce v. Society of Sisters decision, a ruling that cemented parents’ fundamental right to direct their children’s education and affirmed that government cannot mandate public school attendance.
Moody was joined by a coalition of education and parental rights advocates, including Education Secretary Linda McMahon, Representatives Mary Miller and Kat Cammack, as well as representatives from prominent organizations such as Moms for Liberty, Alliance Defending Freedom, and Defending Education.

“One hundred years ago, the Supreme Court made an important ruling in affirming parental rights in their children’s education,” Senator Moody stated. “As a mother, I know just how important it is for parents to decide how their children are educated. Parents must be able to decide the education that meets the needs and moral standards of their families, and that is why I am pushing to pass our Educational Choice for Children Act.”
Moody emphasized her commitment to legislative priorities aimed at empowering families to choose the best educational path for their children. Chief among these is her fervent support for the Educational Choice for Children Act (ECCA).

The ECCA, a federal tax credit scholarship bill, stands to significantly expand educational opportunities for up to two million students.
Under this proposed legislation, scholarships would be funded through private donations, not federal money, with donors receiving a federal tax credit in return. This innovative approach would allow students to utilize scholarships for a wide array of educational services, including tuition, tutoring to address learning loss, specialized services for children with special needs, and essential education technology.
Today’s event served as a powerful reminder of the enduring principles enshrined in Pierce v. Society of Sisters and highlighted the ongoing efforts by Senator Moody and her allies to ensure that parental rights remain at the forefront of education policy.
