With the official start of the 2025 Atlantic Hurricane Season just days away on June 1, U.S. Senator Rick Scott today joined state and local leaders and law enforcement in Naples to emphatically urge Floridians to finalize their preparedness plans.

The press conference marked the first stop on Scott’s week-long hurricane preparedness tour across Florida, aimed at reminding families that proactive measures save lives.

Scott stressed his ongoing commitment to ensuring Florida families have the necessary resources to prepare for, respond to, and recover from natural disasters.

“With the 2025 Hurricane Season just around the corner, I am kicking off my annual hurricane preparedness tour in Southwest Florida,” Scott stated. “Communities here in Southwest Florida have been devastated by storms in recent years, and they know firsthand how being prepared can make all the difference. As we saw with Hurricane Ian and Hurricane Milton, severe weather can be unpredictable, change direction, and approach quickly and bring serious rain, wind, and flooding. No one should risk their life or their family by being unprepared.”

He continued, “Now is the perfect time to stock up on disaster supplies; things like flashlights, batteries, first aid kits, radios, and other essentials. Floridians are resilient – Collier County is a great example of that with its incredible rebuild and recovery over the past couple of years – and we have great first responders and community leaders who stand ready to help families, but preparedness starts with YOU. As I always say: you can rebuild your home, but you can’t rebuild your life. Don’t take chances with your safety. Start preparing today.”

On the federal level, Scott highlighted his continued efforts to support Floridians. He recently chaired a Senate Special Committee on Aging hearing focused on disaster preparedness for seniors, who often face unique challenges.

In the last Congress, Scott successfully secured passage of his Federal Disaster Tax Relief Act, providing tax relief for communities impacted by numerous disasters, including Hurricanes Helene, Debby, Milton, Ian, Nicole, Fiona, and Idalia. He also championed the FISHES Act to aid Florida’s fisheries in recovering from storms by improving federal regulatory processes for disaster relief.

Scott is currently leading several legislative initiatives aimed at supporting Floridians during hurricane season, including:

  • The Homeowners Premium Tax Reduction Act, which would provide an above-the-line tax deduction of up to $10,000 annually for homeowners’ insurance premiums on a primary residence.
  • The Flood Insurance Relief Act, designed to offer tax relief for Americans purchasing flood insurance through the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) or private carriers.
  • The Removing Barriers to Private Flood Insurance Act, the Flood Insurance Consumer Choice Act, and the Flood Insurance Transparency Act, all aimed at reforming the NFIP to lower flood insurance costs, foster a more robust private market, and ensure the property insurance market better serves Florida families.
  • The Residential Emergency Asset Accumulation Deferred Taxation Yield (READY) Account Act, which would create a tax-free savings vehicle for home mitigation and disaster response expenses.

Senator Scott’s tour will continue throughout the week, with additional stops planned across the state to reinforce the critical message of early preparation.
