Oscar Gomez Guerra, identified as the leader of a sophisticated theft ring, was convicted on charges of grand theft and dealing in stolen property, Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier’s Statewide Prosecution announced Thursday.
The ring, composed of Cuban nationals, is accused of stealing over $550,000 worth of trailers, RVs, boats, campers, and other large vehicles across Florida.
“This criminal alien took advantage of Floridians and our nation, and his behavior earned him some time with the Florida Department of Corrections,” said Attorney General Uthmeier. “Thanks to the work of our brave law enforcement and Assistant Statewide Prosecutors Ryan Shaw and Ben Grueschow, we secured a conviction and final deportation order for this criminal alien. He’ll pay his debt to the people of Florida, and then we’ll punch his ticket out of here.”

The law enforcement investigation revealed that Guerra orchestrated a Miami-based criminal enterprise. Members of the group would travel to various parts of the state in rental cars to carry out the thefts.
Authorities detailed at least 10 thefts in the Ocala area alone. In one particularly egregious case, Guerra’s group stole a travel trailer from an 80-year-old victim, later selling the stolen property in Flagler County.
A jury found Guerra guilty of one count of grand theft of more than $20,000, a second-degree felony, and one count of dealing in stolen property, also a second-degree felony.

As a result of these convictions, Guerra faces a potential sentence of up to 60 years in prison. Following the completion of his sentence, he will be deported.
