Former Fox News host Steve Hilton has officially announced his candidacy for Governor of California, entering the race as a Republican. In a social media post on April 21st, Hilton declared his intention to challenge the state’s longstanding Democratic dominance, using the slogan, “time to make California Golden Again.”

Hilton, who rose to prominence with his Fox News show “The Next Revolution,” unveiled his campaign with a video message posted on X.

In the video, he outlined his personal journey, emphasizing his immigrant roots and his admiration for former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher.

“My parents fled communism in Hungary, so I was born in England. A free country, but a country in rapid decline,” Hilton stated in the video. He recounted his experiences working with the Conservative Party and his entrepreneurial ventures before moving to California in 2012.

Hilton’s message heavily criticized the current state of California, attributing its perceived decline to “Democrat one-party rule.” He pointed to issues such as rising crime, school closures during the pandemic, and the erosion of the “California Dream.”

“Look at these pictures, the chaos, the crime, the collapse of the California Dream,” Hilton said, displaying images of urban decay. “This is not just any other state. California means to America. What America means to the world.”

He pledged to bring “balance” and “practical policies” to the state, advocating for “great jobs, great homes, great kids.” Hilton stressed the need to restore California as “the land of opportunity” and an “inspiration.”

“There’s only one way to do that. You’ve got to end the one-party rule that got us into this mess,” he asserted. “It’s time to end the years of Democrat failure. It’s time for a new future. That’s why I’m running for governor. To make this beautiful state that we love so much, truly golden again.”

Hilton’s announcement marks a significant entry into the California gubernatorial race, promising to bring a strong conservative voice to a state that has been dominated by Democrats for over a decade.

His background in media, politics, and business could provide him with a unique platform to challenge the established political landscape.
