Fox News White House correspondent Peter Doocy has voiced significant skepticism regarding former White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre’s ability to reconcile her past statements about former President Joe Biden’s health with her new book deal and stated departure from the Democratic Party.
Jean-Pierre recently announced the upcoming release of her book, “Independent,” slated for October, and declared her intention to leave the Democratic Party, citing its “betrayal” of Biden.
However, Doocy, a frequent interrogator of Jean-Pierre during her tenure, believes her track record of denying concerns about Biden’s cognitive abilities will be difficult to overcome as she attempts a public comeback.

Speaking on “Fox & Friends” on Thursday, Doocy highlighted Jean-Pierre’s tendency to dismiss legitimate questions as “misinformation.” “The thing about this book is that she, towards the end, before Biden dropped out [and] after Biden dropped out, she would say that legitimate questions were misinformation and I told her once, ‘you can’t just call something that you don’t like misinformation,'” Doocy stated. “And so I don’t know how she’s going to square being the public face of saying things that were not true about the president and about policies. I don’t know how she’s just going to come out and say, ‘you know what? Just because I swore on camera that things were okay, actually here’s what was really going on.'”
Doocy’s remarks come after numerous instances where he directly challenged Jean-Pierre on Biden’s cognitive fitness. In September 2023, Doocy pressed Jean-Pierre to explain why Biden repeated a story word-for-word, only for her to claim he was simply making his reasons for running “very clear.”

Further incidents fueled Doocy’s persistent questioning. In February 2024, Biden confused French President Emmanuel Macron with deceased former President François Mitterrand. Doocy subsequently raised concerns about Biden’s mental health and memory during a briefing, prompting a visibly frustrated Jean-Pierre to dismiss the line of questioning.
Following what many described as a “disastrous” debate performance by Biden in June, Doocy continued to probe, asking why Biden had stated his brain was “deteriorating.” When Jean-Pierre asserted Biden was “joking,” Doocy directly asked in a July 9 briefing whether Biden’s medical team had refused to test him for Parkinson’s, dementia, or other mental health disorders.
“Are you guys just not, since February, testing President Biden for Parkinson’s or dementia, because if he gets a bad result, it’s all over that day,” Doocy inquired.
Jean-Pierre responded by stating, “Again, as I’ve said many times before, the president has had a full-some, comprehensive — what we said, what we shared with you was comprehensive but he has had a full physical. We’ve shown the results of those physicals these past three years … With all due respect, you’re not a doctor, I’m not a doctor. It’s the president’s medical unit that make a decision on what the president needs.”

Doocy also pointed out in September 2023 that Biden’s staff frequently escorted him out of public events, provided him with notecards during press conferences, and shielded him from the press, asking why Biden’s staff treated him “like a baby.” Jean-Pierre dismissed these suspicions as “ridiculous.”
Throughout her time as press secretary, Jean-Pierre consistently maintained that Biden was sharp and healthy, often dismissing any footage suggesting otherwise as “cheap fake.” Even after the widely criticized debate, she continued to assert that Biden simply had a “bad night” and denied any White House cover-up regarding his health.
As Jean-Pierre prepares to release “Independent,” Doocy’s comments underscore the challenge she faces in re-establishing credibility with a public that witnessed her consistent defense of Biden’s cognitive abilities, even in the face of mounting questions.
