Drivers in Hernando County should prepare for significant traffic disruptions next week as the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) District 7 has announced a series of lane closures along US 98 / SR 50 (Cortez Blvd.) and its bypass, effective from June 15 to June 21, 2025. These closures are part of ongoing roadwork projects and will impact various segments of the key thoroughfare both day and night.
The most extensive closures will affect US 98 / SR 50 (Cortez Blvd.) from east of Mondon Hill Road / Spring Lake Highway to Lockhart Road. Motorists can expect day lane closures from Monday, June 16, through Saturday, June 21, operating from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Additionally, night lane closures are scheduled from Sunday, June 15, through Thursday, June 19, running from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m.

Further west, SR 50 Cortez Blvd from Mondon Hill Road to South of Jasmine Drive will see day lane closures from Monday, June 16, through Friday, June 20, between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m.
The already congested SR 50 (Cortez Blvd.) / SR 50 A (W Jefferson Street) / Cobb Road intersection will continue to experience significant impact. One lane will remain closed in each direction approaching and through the intersection, 24 hours per day, through approximately mid-June 2025. Drivers are advised to seek alternate routes if possible to avoid delays at this critical junction.
On the SR 50 Bypass (Cortez Blvd.) from south of the Cobb Road/Cortez Blvd./Jefferson Street intersection to Buck Hope Road, commuters should anticipate day lane closures from Monday, June 16, through Friday, June 20, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Night lane closures are also planned for this stretch from Sunday, June 15, through Thursday, June 19, nights from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Finally, a segment of SR 50 (Cortez Blvd) from Ridge Manor Boulevard to Riverland Clay Sink Road will be subject to day periodic flagging and brief traffic stops from Monday, June 16, through Friday, June 20, from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Night periodic flagging and brief traffic stops will also occur from Sunday, June 15, through Thursday, June 19, nights from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m.
FDOT advises drivers to exercise caution, adhere to posted speed limits, and be aware of construction personnel and equipment in these areas. Commuters are encouraged to plan their routes accordingly, allow for extra travel time, or consider alternative routes to minimize delays during these essential road improvement projects.
