TAMPA, Fla. – The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) has successfully rescued a 13-year-old girl who was being held and exploited in a motel room, leading to the arrest of two men now facing multiple felony charges, including human trafficking.

The rescue unfolded on May 31, 2025, after the Sheriff’s Office received a critical 911 call from the victim’s sister. The sister had received a desperate voice message from the child, indicating she was in danger at the A1 Motel in Tampa. Deputies responded immediately to the scene.

Upon arrival, deputies located Marlon Alfaro-Alvarez, 28, who attempted to evade capture by fleeing through a bathroom window but was quickly apprehended. Also detained was Floyd Amaya Garvin, 25, who was found inside the room with the victim.

The subsequent investigation revealed a disturbing chain of events. The suspects had allegedly communicated with the young victim via social media, picking her up under false pretenses. They then took her to a gas station before bringing her to the A1 Motel.

Despite the victim’s repeated pleas to go home, Alfaro-Alvarez and Amaya Garvin reportedly physically prevented her from leaving the room and offered her money in exchange for sex.

The victim managed to secretly record a message asking for help and sent it to her sister, whose quick thinking led to the immediate involvement of law enforcement.

“This child was lured, isolated, and targeted by adults who made the deliberate choice to exploit her. Their actions were not impulsive — they were predatory and calculated,” Hillsborough County Sheriff Chad Chronister stated. “Thanks to the bravery of this young victim and the swift response of our deputies, we stopped these men before they could cause even more harm. Let this be a clear message: in Hillsborough County, we don’t turn a blind eye to those who prey on children — we turn the full force of the law against them.”

Marlon Alfaro-Alvarez faces a litany of charges, including:

  • Human Trafficking for Commercial Sexual Activity (Victim Under 18)
  • Lewd and Lascivious Molestation
  • Lewd and Lascivious Exhibition
  • False Imprisonment
  • Contributing to the Delinquency or Dependency of a Minor
