BRANDON, Fla. – A Tampa man has been charged with second-degree murder following a fatal shooting that occurred Saturday evening in Brandon. The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office announced the arrest of Delfeayo McCoy, 32, hours after the incident that claimed the life of 25-year-old Darien Lamont Henry.
The event unfolded on June 1, 2025, at approximately 7:05 p.m. in the breezeway of an apartment building on the 700 block of Providence Trace Circle.
According to preliminary investigations, Henry and McCoy became engaged in a verbal altercation. During the argument, McCoy allegedly brandished a firearm and shot Henry in the upper body before fleeing the scene.

Henry was transported to Brandon Regional Hospital, where he was pronounced deceased.
Detectives, through investigative means, positively identified McCoy as the suspect. He was subsequently located and apprehended at a residence in the 4900 block of 80th Street South in Tampa.
McCoy faces charges of:
- Second Degree Murder with a Firearm
- Felon in Possession of a Firearm
Sheriff Chad Chronister expressed his sorrow over the loss of life and commended his team’s rapid response. “While this arrest will bring some measure of accountability, it cannot bring back the life that was lost. These senseless acts of violence must stop,” said Sheriff Chronister. “Our detectives’ efforts to quickly locate and arrest this suspect demonstrate their commitment to justice and keeping our community safe.”
The Sheriff had earlier commented on the initial investigation, stating, “A man’s life has been tragically cut short due to an act of violence that can never be undone. There is no dispute that should ever come to this. Our detectives are doing everything they can to locate the suspect and ensure the victim and his family get the justice they deserve.”

Deputies responded to the 700 block of Providence Trace Circle at approximately 7:05 p.m. on June 1, 2025, following reports of a shooting. According to preliminary information from the HCSO, an argument escalated between a suspect and the victim in the breezeway of an apartment complex. During the altercation, the suspect reportedly shot the victim and then fled the scene.

The victim, whose identity has not yet been released, was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced deceased.
“A man’s life has been tragically cut short due to an act of violence that can never be undone,” said Sheriff Chad Chronister. “There is no dispute that should ever come to this. Our detectives are doing everything they can to locate the suspect and ensure the victim and his family get the justice they deserve.”
HCSO detectives are actively working to locate the suspect involved in the shooting. No description of the suspect has been released at this time.
