HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, Fla. – Commuters who regularly use the westbound I-4 exit ramp (Exit 21) to access Alexander Street (SR 39) will need to plan an alternate route overnight this Thursday. The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) has announced that the ramp will be temporarily closed for essential maintenance operations.

The closure will take effect at 9 p.m. on Thursday, May 15, and is scheduled to last until 5 a.m. on Friday, May 16, weather permitting.

During this brief closure, westbound I-4 motorists intending to reach Alexander Street (SR 39) will need to utilize a detour. FDOT advises drivers to exit I-4 at the same Exit 21, but instead of turning right towards the closed ramp, they should turn left onto Paul Buchman Highway (SR 39A).

From there, motorists should turn left again onto Sam Allen Road and continue to Alexander Street (SR 39).

Electronic message boards and directional signage will be placed in the area to help guide drivers through the temporary change. Authorities are urging all motorists traveling through the area to exercise caution and remain vigilant for construction workers present in the work zone.
