HSI Tampa Arrests International Fugitive Wanted For Child Sexual Assault

TAMPA, Fla. – A 43-year-old Bolivian national with Spanish citizenship, identified as Darwin Villarroel Saucedo, an international fugitive wanted in Spain for the sexual assault of a minor, has been apprehended in Florida.

The arrest was the result of a collaborative effort involving Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) Tampa, Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) Miami, the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE), and the FBI Tampa.

Villarroel Saucedo was initially taken into custody on April 1, 2022, following an investigation that revealed his illegal presence in the United States as a visa overstay. He was released back into the United States following this arrest.

Authorities confirmed that Spanish authorities actively sought him for sexual assault charges involving a minor.

Further investigation into Villarroel Saucedo’s time in the U.S. revealed a history of legal issues. He reportedly still faces pending charges stemming from a March 2023 traffic violation. Additionally, on April 10, 2023, the Lee County Sheriff’s Office issued him a citation for driving without a valid driver’s license.

Villarroel Saucedo is currently being held in federal custody.
