Border czar Tom Homan said on Friday that the number of arrests and deportations of illegal migrants are going to grow “substantially” in the upcoming weeks.
White House deputy chief of staff for policy Stephen Miller and Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem have instructed Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to make a minimum of 3,000 daily arrests, a major jump from the quotas set at the start of President Donald Trump’s term. Homan told Daily Caller editorial director Vince Coglianese on “Vince” that these arrests are bound to surge as more agents enter sanctuary cities.

“We need to do a hell of a lot more. So I’ve been pushing for more arrests in the interior, I’ve said we’ve gotta do more, we’ve gotta do better,” Homan said. “We’ve got over 600,000 illegal aliens in this country with criminal convictions walking the streets of this country. So arresting a 1,000 a day is not enough. So right now, the numbers are about 1,500, and we need to double that and I agree with Stephen Miller 100%. Stephen Miller, the guy’s brilliant. He’s the architect and it’s an honor to work with him and I agree with and I agree with Secretary Kristi Noem. You’ve gotta have more. And it’s not gonna be hard to do.”
The border czar said that ICE agents will “flood the zone” in sanctuary cities to increase these arrests.

“So sanctuary cities are gonna be flooded with officers, doing what they need to do to find these public safety threats, so you’re gonna see those numbers increased substantially in the next few weeks,” Homan continued.
Homan said during an April 28 press briefing that he was “happy” with the deportation numbers, which added up to 139,000 since Jan. 20 at the time.

The Supreme Court gave the Trump administration the green light to deport over 532,000 migrants who obtained legal status under former President Joe Biden’s administration in a Friday ruling. Associated Justices Sonia Sotomayor and Ketanji Brown Jackson dissented in the decision.
Democratic Mayors Michelle Wu of Boston and Brandon Johnson of Chicago could not explicitly answer whether they would cooperate with ICE by turning over criminals who had entered the U.S. illegally during a March 5 congressional hearing. These mayors, along with Denver Mayor Mike Johnston, have threatened to not comply with the Trump administration’s immigration laws.
Homan told Fox News’ Sean Hannity that Johnson could “go to jail” if he attempted to prevent ICE from deporting illegal immigrants in his city. Johnson later backtracked his comments, but said he encourages Denver residents to protest the Trump administration’s immigration policies.

The border czar has condemned mayors in sanctuary cities, saying that he has overseen the arrests of individuals who have committed heinous crimes.
A Republican-led tax and spending package, which Trump calls the “big, beautiful bill,” intends to provide $46.5 billion to revive construction of the border wall, $4.1 billion to hire Border Patrol agents and an additional $1,000 fee for those filing to seek asylum. The necessary funding for immigration is currently being held up as the legislation is being debated in the Senate.
