Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz issued a warning to Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei Tuesday, suggesting he could face a similar end to former Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein if he continues to commit “war crimes” and launch missiles at Israeli civilians.

Speaking during a meeting with Israel Defense Force (IDF) leaders, Katz’s remarks, reported by the Times of Israel, underscore a significant escalation in rhetoric between the two regional adversaries.

“I warn the Iranian dictator against continuing to commit war crimes and launching missiles at Israeli civilians,” Katz stated. “He would do well to remember the fate of the dictator in the country neighboring Iran who chose this same path against the State of Israel.”

The reference to Saddam Hussein is a potent one. Hussein was overthrown by a U.S.-led coalition in 2003, subsequently found in hiding, and later executed by hanging. The implied parallel suggests a potential for international intervention and a violent end for the Iranian leader if current hostilities persist.

Katz’s comments came as Israel reportedly continues to target Iranian assets. “We will continue today as well to act against regime and military targets in Tehran, just as we did yesterday against the propaganda and incitement broadcasting authority,” Katz asserted, signaling ongoing and potentially expanding military actions.

In a direct appeal to the Iranian population, Katz urged residents of Tehran to prioritize their safety. “I urge the residents of Tehran to evacuate those areas in accordance with the IDF Spokesperson’s instructions in Persian, for their own protection,” he added, indicating a possibility of further strikes within the Iranian capital.
