Democratic strategist James Carville unleashed a fiery tirade on Wednesday, vehemently defending Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s reported decision to withhold information from then-President Donald Trump regarding Ukraine’s recent massive drone attack on Russian air bases.
Carville’s outburst came in response to criticism from former White House adviser Steve Bannon, who suggested Ukraine should have informed Trump about the strikes.
The controversy centers on a significant Ukrainian drone operation that reportedly saw a massive swarm of drones strike crucial airbases and nuclear bombing assets deep within Russian territory, including targets in Siberia.

According to reports, the White House was not privy to Ukraine’s plans for these attacks. Ukraine claims the strikes hit 40 bombers, nearly a third of Russia’s strategic bombing fleet. These drones were reportedly smuggled into Russia over several months in covert containers before being activated within Russian territory.
Bannon, on Monday, had lambasted Republican South Carolina Senator Lindsey Graham for visiting Ukraine prior to the attacks, arguing that Trump should have been notified. Carville, during an episode of “Politics War Room,” scoffed at this notion, framing it as a “puzzle” for his audience.
“Why do you think Zelenskyy didn’t tell Trump about the plan?” Carville posed, allowing a mere “microsecond” for an answer before erupting. “Because he didn’t want to tell Putin. And if you tell Trump, you’re telling Putin. That’s why, you dumb son of a bitch.”

Carville continued, his voice rising in exasperation, “You think they’re going to tell Trump that they have an equivalent of Pearl Harbor? This is how f***ing stupid people are. I mean, I don’t know why people didn’t jump on that. Maybe I missed it, the late-night people —Jesus Christ!”
He linked the drone attacks to a previous exchange between Trump and Zelenskyy in February, where Trump reportedly told the Ukrainian president that he didn’t “have the cards” in his war against Russia. Carville implied the drone strikes were a strategic retort from Zelenskyy.

“Look, ‘He didn’t tell Trump they had this drone strike coming,’ and right when Trump was saying, ‘You have no cards,’ this guy was sitting there saying, ‘Uh, you think I don’t have any cards? Wait till you see me deal off the bottom of the deck, and you’ll start seeing aces flying everywhere,'” Carville exclaimed.
The news of the widespread drone attacks has sent ripples through international relations. Russian President Vladimir Putin reportedly told Trump in a Wednesday phone call that Russia would retaliate in response to the attacks, signaling a potential escalation in the ongoing conflict.
