Longtime Kentucky State Senator Robin Webb, a fixture in the Democratic Party since 1999, announced Monday on Fox News that she is switching her affiliation back to the Republican Party. Citing a fundamental divergence between her deeply held rural values and the national Democratic Party’s increasingly progressive direction, Webb’s move marks a significant shift in the Kentucky political landscape.
During an appearance on “The Ingraham Angle,” Webb articulated her decision as the culmination of an internal struggle.

“The rural values that we have grown up with and value, it’s just been a continuous struggle for me,” Webb stated. She emphasized the consistency of her voting record on issues of conservatism and constitutionalism, indicating a long-standing ideological alignment that ultimately pulled her away from the Democrats. “So I feel like this is the time to make that statement and go back to the Republican Party.”
Webb specifically highlighted the Democratic Party’s growing embrace of progressive ideologies on issues such as abortion, gender identity, and what she termed “anti-Israel activism” as key factors in her decision to sever ties.
Reflecting on her political journey, Webb recalled her initial switch to the Democratic Party during her time as a coal miner, drawn by worker safety issues.

However, she consistently maintained a conservative stance throughout her tenure as a rural state senator. “My first house district was actually a Republican district. I represented them for 10 years,” Webb noted, underscoring her conservative roots. “I’m a rancher. I’m a hunter. I’m conservative. I’m a member of the pro-Israel caucus.”
Webb’s departure deals yet another blow to the Democratic Party, which has been steadily losing ground among working-class and rural voters nationwide.
Recent polling underscores the challenges faced by the Democrats. A poll conducted from March 6-9 indicated the Democratic Party’s favorability rating plummeted to a new low of 29%. Furthermore, CNN/SSRS surveys from April and May 2025 revealed that only 16% of Americans view Democrats as strong leaders, compared to 40% for Republicans.

Similarly, only 19% believe Democrats are capable of getting things done, while 36% hold that view for Republicans.
