Key Largo Duo Busted In Fentanyl And Cocaine Trafficking Operation; Child Neglect Charges Filed

MONROE COUNTY, Fla. – Two Key Largo residents were arrested Friday following a narcotics investigation that yielded a significant quantity of fentanyl, cocaine, and other controlled substances. Addison Lee Baumgardner, 37, and Shelby Lynn Baer, 33, were taken into custody after Sheriff’s Office Special Operations Detectives witnessed alleged drug sales on the 98000 block of the Overseas Highway.

According to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, detectives observed Baumgardner engaging in drug transactions alongside Baer, who had a 6-year-old child in her care at the time.

Following these observations, authorities obtained a search warrant for a location associated with the pair.

The execution of the search warrant resulted in the discovery of a substantial amount of narcotics, including:

  • 2.3 ounces of fentanyl powder
  • 105 fentanyl pills
  • 8.7 grams of powder cocaine
  • 1 gram of crack cocaine
  • 36 grams of a cocaine-liquid mixture
  • Multiple bags containing over 100 assorted pills
  • A digital scale
  • $976 in cash, suspected to be proceeds from drug sales

As a result of the investigation, Addison Lee Baumgardner faces a litany of charges, including multiple counts of trafficking fentanyl, trafficking cocaine, possession of cocaine, cocaine manufacturing, possession of a controlled substance, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Shelby Lynn Baer was charged with trafficking fentanyl and an additional count of child neglect due to the presence of the minor during the alleged drug activity.

The 6-year-old child was safely removed from the scene and placed in the care of a family member. The Florida Department of Children and Families has been notified and is involved in ensuring the child’s well-being.

Both Baumgardner and Baer were transported to the Monroe County Jail and are awaiting further legal proceedings.
