LAKELAND, Fla. – Residents looking to clear out their medicine cabinets of old or unused prescriptions will have an opportunity this weekend. The Lakeland Police Department is participating in the nationwide National Prescription Drug Take Back Day on Saturday, April 26, 2025.
The event, held in partnership with the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and other community partners, will run from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. According to police, it offers a safe, convenient, and responsible way for the public to dispose of unwanted, unneeded, or expired human and pet medications.

During the event, the Lakeland Police Department will accept a variety of items, including unused, expired, or unwanted human and pet prescription medications, over-the-counter medications, vitamins, and other medications in both liquid and solid forms. To address the growing concern around vaping, JUULs and other e-cigarette devices will also be accepted.
However, officials stress that needles or sharps will not be accepted at the collection site. Participants are asked to place their medications in a clear, airtight plastic bag before bringing them to the event.

For those unable to attend the specific event on April 26th, the Lakeland Police Department offers a year-round alternative. Unwanted medications can always be dropped off in the secure drop box located in the lobby of the police department headquarters.
This drop box is accessible to the public 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Residents seeking additional drop-off locations or more information about the national effort can visit the DEA’s official Take Back Day website at dea.gov/takebackday.
