LAKE COUNTY, Fla. – Jettzel Jomar Felix-Marcano, 36, of Leesburg, was sentenced to 12 years in the Florida Department of Corrections last week after being found guilty on all charges stemming from a 2022 arrest.

The conviction, handed down in a Lake County courtroom, included Aggravated Battery with Great Bodily Harm, Battery, Possession with the Intent to Sell, Manufacture or Deliver Cannabis, and Possession of Paraphernalia.

The case originated on May 18, 2022, when Deputy Sullivan of the Lake County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call from the Leesburg Police Department. The victim in the case had sought help at the LPD lobby, reporting continuous battery by Felix-Marcano within LCSO jurisdiction.

During questioning by Deputy Sullivan, the victim detailed horrific abuse, including repeated beatings, the forceful placement of their hand on a burning stove, and being struck with a belt. The victim also expressed a dire sense of danger, stating they felt their options that day were “Leave, stay or die.”

Due to the visible injuries sustained by the victim, law enforcement ensured they received immediate medical treatment. The victim’s statements, corroborated by their injuries, led officers to the residence of Felix-Marcano for further investigation. Deputies made contact with the defendant at the home and subsequently placed him under arrest.

While securing the scene, Deputy Caston located the belt described by the victim as the weapon used in the assault. A search of the residence also yielded a significant quantity of cannabis on the kitchen counter, along with various items of drug paraphernalia, all of which were collected as evidence.

The State Attorney’s Office commended Assistant State Attorneys Gennady Gusak and Mark Van Haasteren for their diligent prosecution and Victim Advocate Anna Bass for her support to the victim throughout the legal process.
