WESLEY CHAPEL, Fla. – The Tampa Bay Lightning and Lightning Warriors Hockey Program are proud to announce the fifth annual “Hockey Heals 22,” a powerful 22-hour hockey marathon dedicated to raising awareness and funds for veteran suicide prevention.
The event is scheduled to begin on Saturday, June 21, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. and will continue until noon on Sunday, June 22, 2025, at AdventHealth Center Ice in Wesley Chapel.
This year marks a significant milestone as Hockey Heals 22 celebrates its fifth anniversary. The event’s central theme revolves around the sobering statistic that 22 veterans lose their lives to suicide each day.

The Lightning Warriors will take to the ice for 22 consecutive hours of hockey. The primary objective is to generate crucial awareness and secure vital funding for programs dedicated to supporting veterans and their families during moments of profound crisis.
Chris Scangarello, Executive Director of the Lightning Warriors Hockey Program, emphasized the profound impact of the event. “This event is a powerful way to show our support for veterans and foster a sense of community,” Scangarello stated. “We are committed to reducing the number 22 every day, and Hockey Heals 22 plays a vital role in that mission.”
Throughout the marathon, the Lightning Warriors will face off against a diverse range of opponents, including local and visiting teams, fellow veteran teams, first responders, and even local schools. Adding to the excitement and significance of the event, a host of Tampa Bay public figures are expected to be in attendance, lending their support to this critical cause.

All proceeds generated from Hockey Heals 22 will directly benefit the Lightning Warriors Hockey Program, the Malone Family Foundation, and Mission Roll Call – all organizations deeply committed to veteran welfare and suicide prevention initiatives.
Event Highlights:
- June 21, 2:00 p.m.: The event will kick off with an inspiring Opening Ceremony, immediately followed by the highly anticipated kickoff game.
- June 22, Noon: The marathon will conclude with a powerful closing remarks session and a moment of silence, honoring those lost and reinforcing the collective commitment to prevention.
- Special Guests: Attendees can look forward to appearances by notable figures, including former NHL player Ryan Malone and additional NHL alumni. Also scheduled to perform is Ben Voigt, a former member of Ashes & Arrows and a semi-finalist on season 19 of America’s Got Talent, adding an artistic touch to the proceedings.
