TAMPA, Fla. – Tampa International Airport (TPA) is the site of a live fire training exercise this morning, conducted by Tampa Fire Rescue’s Airport and Fire Fighting (ARFF) division. The annual training will begin at 9:30 AM and is expected to conclude by 10:30 AM.

Residents and travelers near the airport may see flames reaching up to 40 feet in the air and significant black smoke. Officials have stated that jet fuel is being used in the exercise to simulate realistic aircraft fire scenarios.

Tampa Fire Rescue emphasizes that this is a controlled training exercise only, and there is no cause for public alarm. These annual drills ensure that ARFF personnel are highly skilled and prepared to respond effectively to potential aircraft emergencies.

Airport operations are not expected to be impacted by the training.
